San Francisco, CA, March 12, 2013 – Hearts United for Animals in Auburn, Nebraska has partnered with Give by Cell to implement its Mobile Give fundraising to save the lives and improve the welfare of rescued animals across in the state of Nebraska and beyond. Hearts United for Animals is a no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization dedicated to the relief of suffering.

On a Wednesday morning, just after midnight, HUA received a call from an emergency animal hospital in the Omaha area. A 12-week old puppy had arrived with pneumonia and the owners did not wish to pay for treatment. After surrendering the puppy to HUA, the organization posted a message on their Facebook and Twitter asking for donations for the puppy’s vet bills. Within 24 hours of posting, the organization raised $1,500 through their Give by Cell Mobile Give campaign.

“It is wonderful to have Give by Cell’s Mobile Give feature available for our social media fans who wish to donate without filling out a long form or going to grab their credit card,” said Lori Hook, a Representative from Hearts United for Animals. “They appreciate being able to do it on the go and we appreciate having the ability to give our supporters a quick and easy way to send funding for a newly arrived dog or cat in need.”

The organization uses the keyword as a general method of collecting donations to support their animal sanctuary in Nebraska but also utilizes it for emergency care for animals, posting their keyword and shortcode along with a short message from the animal in need on Twitter, Facebook, and their official website.

Supporters can donate $10, with the charge applied to their mobile phone bill, by texting “GIFT” to 20222*. For more information about Mobile Give, please click here.

About Hearts United for Animals

With a staff of 25 caregivers and about 50 regular volunteers, HUA—a nonprofit 501(c)(3)—cares for more than 300 dogs and a smaller number of cats, operating a variety of programs with a track record of success. The organization rescues special-needs dogs across the nation; since 1993, HUA has placed dogs in 45 states and Canada through its innovative Jet Set Dogs program, which was honored by the Smithsonian Institute for its outstanding use of technology. Dogs who cannot be adopted stay with HUA for the rest of their lives as Sanctuary Sweethearts. HUA runs an extensive, national anti-puppy mill effort, providing expertise, organization, and printed materials for groups and individuals to educate the public about large-scale commercial breeding operations. HUA also operates a low-cost spay/neuter clinic serving a four-state area; more than 8,300 animals have been altered, preventing the births of unwanted litters.
